Cougar’s Lament

It would be easy to fall in love with you
and all those dumb charming things that you do.
It would be easy to fall in love with you
and if I’m not careful that’s just what I’ll do.

‘Cause you’re lovely and clumsy and so full of grace.
It takes a special effort not to stare at your face.
And your lips they give me lewd ideas.
I’d like to get you alone.

‘Cause the way you wear your hat is just so god-damned cute.
I wonder whatcha’d look like in your birthday suit.
I’m dazzled by the brilliance of your perfect teeth.
They’re so bright, I can’t see.

Everybody says that you’re too young for me,
but you make me feel like I’m 17.
If I were a man, and you were the girl,
your friends would say to “give it a whirl.”

I should have known better than to fall in love with you
and all those dumb charming things that you do.
I should have known better than to fall in love with you
Just look at the silly things that you made me do.

I bought heels I can’t walk in and waxed everywhere.
Ridiculous and died my grey hair.
Still everything you say is so wisely naïve.
You don’t notice this heart on my sleeve.

I follow you around like I’m some kind of dog,
lost in a haze of bewildering fog.
I’m sure it must look like I’m losing my mind
But don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.

It was so easy to fall in love with you
and all those dumb charming things that you do.
It won’t be so easy to stop thinking about you
but it might make a good song when the heartbreak is through.
